A downloadable game for Windows
The game
In Dream Dash you race through your dreams and nightmares against your opponent in a high speed race, while collecting as many dream shards as you can in order to claim victory over your competition!
Dream Dash appeals to players who typically enjoy a quick ''jump in to action'' style of game where they can play it multiple times to beat their previous high scores.
Gameplay
- Collect as many dream shards as you can within 2 minutes
- Avoid obstacles as you lose points when running in to them
- Push your competition into the obstacles to make them lose points
- Collect power ups to gain an advantage. There are 3 different power ups to collect
- At the end of a run you'll get a detailed breakdown of how many shards you collected, how many times you pushed your opponent and how many power ups you took
Development
Dream Dash was developed during a 3 week period by designers, programmers and animators from the 1st year class at Futuregames in Stockholm. The game was developed in Unity with a focus on accessibility, where we were tasked with developing the game from the Xbox adaptive controller.
Theme & target audience
For this project we were given the theme of ''dreams'' and a target audience group aged 10-12 years. We drew inspiration from games that are popular with this age group, and landed on wanting to make a simple, fast paced and fun competitive experience! Even if the target audience for Dream Dash are kids, the game can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of age.
Takeaways from the development process
Throughout the development of our game we learned a lot about the importance of scoping small and incorporating accessibility early on. As we progressed through the development stages we continued to keep accessibility as well as our target audience in mind in order to create the best experience possible.
